“Well Davie boy this is the story of how god was seen by a fisher” said uncle Axel. “The story went like this, A long time ago in the old people’s time where buildings lit up like the night sky and the boats went fast like the stallions that your father owns, a fisher man lived in a small hut by the river just 10 miles from here and he was strong believer of the norm. He loved to fish with his wife every day and on Sundays he would go to church and pray to the blasphemies that were being born north of where he was or now it is known as the badlands where blasphemies may roam freely. One day he and his wife set out to find the worlds biggest fish and they set off on their journey at night where they could not see where the fish were but could only see the pitch black night Sky and the dark Grey ocean and sea.”
“Hours past by and still they had not caught any fish not a single nibble on the line yet the area was supposed to be full of the worlds most wonderous fish that have ever existed. More hours had passed and eventually a storm had started to brew but this was no ordinary storm as this storm, was a storm full of red twisters flying out of it and shaking the ocean floor like Poseidon woke up in anger and Hades god of the underworld , unleashing hell on Poseidon. The fisherman and his wife were reeling in all the nets and lines but as they had suddenly, a large roar was heard and the fisherman looked at the ocean and saw nothing but red twisters surrounding his boat. The roar got louder and louder as if it was getting closer to the boat but then it came…”
“Tentacles firing up into the twisters as if they were forming a barrier of death. They saw an eye red as blood and a very large pupil starring at the fisherman’s eyes and the creature could see the fear in the eyes of the fisherman. The tentacles swung and hit the ship’s deck and destroyed the sail’s of the boat that was once used as a navy boat but suddenly a light of hope emerged from the sky. A light with a hand and 4 fingers and a thumb and it pointed at the creature and shot the most accurate shot of lightning that anyone has ever seen…..”

I love how your story begins, ““We’ll Davie boy this is the story of how god was seen by a fisher””, wonderful stuff, old school fairy tale magic. Occasionally your writing loses it’s power through technical inaccuracies, I imagine for example that the fisherman did not pray “to the blasphemies”? But this is more than made up for by phrases like “the pitch black night Sky and the dark Grey ocean” which seem very pleasantly immersed in story telling tradition. Well done Dion, a fine beginning. p.s. you only have to right ‘an’ instead of ‘a’ before words that begin with a vowel, i.e. ‘an aeroplane’ and not “an small hut”

p.p.s. Well done for researching more of John Wyndham’s books, I particularly recommend ‘Day of the Triffids’. J
